At long last, Episode 4 of Wine For Newbies 2.0 is up and waiting for you.

We’ve taken four listener questions and provided some answers. I’m very hopeful more people will send more questions in. The questions in this episode provide great information for wine newbies.

As always, you can listen to the episode on your computer or use the iTunes Store.

Listen and learn!

Bill, this is the first time I’ve been to your website but I’ve listened to your podcast for a long time. I was just reading your post about some people who were criticising your show on iTunes: ignore them, I love your show! My spouse and I only started drinking wine seriously after we started listening to your show, it was very inspiring and we love your straight-forward approach to teaching wine. Most people associate wine tasting with arrogance, snobbery, etc and I can happily say you have none of those negative qualities while also showing an excellent appreciation and knowledge. Keep up the good work, I’m certain there is a “silent majority” that appreciates all the hard work you do.

Listened to this on a trip home yesterday to celebrate Mom’s birthday. Here’s my partner & my $.02 on the “what should be in your cellar question”. Of course keeping in mind we only have a closet & long-term cellar at my parents house (helpful for not prematurely tapping into that red I try to lay down for 5-10 years).

Agree with your $10-$15 everyday, need a quick glass on a Tuesday when a friend drops over or “just because”. I might even say, perhaps an $8-$12 range as sometimes I can get a good under $10 value that is very quaffable for a weeknight esp if from a less expensive region (say a chilean white) or the occasional store sale, etc.

The category we believe you were missing was the $10-$25 range which for us might be a moderately special occasion or at the minimum a nice weekend dinner (with or without company). To me if I can sit for a few hours while making dinner, hanging out, just relaxing as the courses unfold and the wine evolves in the glass or decanter … it is like a mini splurge and happens usually at least a few times a month depending on plans.

Then of course the special occasion, “wines to age” and collectables can come after that. Of course I don’t have any collectables, but it sounds like a nice idea ;-) I have a number of reds, especially from a few quality local wineries that I have just aged as a practice. Affordable and an interesting experience in seeing how a wine changes with age of several years.

Anyway, we were burning with this comment while driving & I had to follow through with a post…..

Great episode! I love the feeback from Chris ( I think it was), about taking a varietal and exploring it for a month. What a terrific idea.

Thanks for taking my question and validating my idea! (and thanks, TreeFrog Frank!) It seems to work pretty well so far.
