Even though the economy is down, astronomical wine prices still surround us. Economists tell us that when demand goes down, prices follow. Unfortunately, I do not think we will see any $100 bottles of Screaming Eagle or $20 bottles of Opus One any time soon–if at all. Still, the question remains: is a $1,000 bottle of wine really better than a $50 bottle of wine? Is it really 20 times better than the less expensive one?
Recently I encountered a presentation given at TASTE3 in Napa Valley where a lucky writer was able to explore this question with wine and other high-end foods. Enjoy!
