We had a bottle of this over the weekend, and it was a mind blowing wine. At less than $20, it’s an insanely great value. At $20 even, it’s only a ridiculously great value. The color is nice and deep yellow. The aromas are intense and classic green apple (common for Rieslings). The flavors are powerful without being overwhelming, it is nice and crisp, nothing out of balance, and has a nice long finish. I rate it a solid A, 5/5, whatever you want to call it. On a 100 point scale, 90+. I liked it enough that I wish I had more than the two bottles remaining–so I ordered a case this morning.
Dr. Loosen (LOH-zen) has a terrific set of information on his web site. (Yes, his–the Dr. is Dr. Ernst Loosen.) If you click on the press and trade link, there are brochures, guides to German wines, and more.

Love the site and the lessons. Been reading them and now need to print them out and follow them systematically.
This wine is at Costco and I picked it up the other day since I love the Eroica that he makes. I would have a hard time saying its mind blowing but that might just be me. Certainly a great QPR but the best I could give it is a middle of the road rating certainly not better than Eroica which typically rates in the low 90’s. IMHO. Again love the site.
Hey, NDog, thanks for the comment. I agree that the Eroica (a joint project between Dr. Loosen and Chateau Ste. Michelle) is an outstanding wine. I would say that it is probably more elegant than the Blue Slate Riesling, but that’s just one person’s opinion. As I note in a post from yesterday, your own opinion is the one that counts.
Interestingly, Dr. Loosen and CSM make the Eroica using Washington grapes and German style. They have another joint project, Saint M., which I think uses German grapes and Washington style.
I’m curious about one thing–how much was the Blue Slate Riesling at Costco? I really wish we’d get one around here…
