What’s your count so far?

by William Wilson on June 20, 2007

Back in January, I made a resolution to take notes about every wine I sample or otherwise consume this year. While I haven’t been very good at making notes, I have been writing down the name of each wine I have.

I’m just slightly past 400 different wines.

Now, that’s a lot of wines, no doubt about it. A good chunk of those come in high-density wine experiences, like the Italian wine blowout evening (with 36 different wines to try), the IU South Bend “final exam,” or the incredible meal at Disney’s Napa Rose. Throw in a trip to California with a couple of days in wine country, and you can get a lot of wines under your belt. And, if you go to a frequent wine tasting, you can pick up five or six new wines each time.

So what’s the point of all this? Am I looking to set some sort of record for the most wines tasted in a year? Hardly. And I’m really not sure what the point is, other than curiosity about how many different wines I might get to try in a year.

Anyway, I guess I’m wondering if anyone else is keeping track of this sort of thing, and if so, how it’s going. Leave a comment and let me know!
