From last night’s Wine 101 class:
Matua Valley Pinot Noir Marlborough 2004: Nice red color, fruity aromas that are pretty powerful, nice fruit forward flavors, but a bit of a short finish. B- <$15 US
Castle Rock Pinot Noir Monterey County 2005: Deeper red color, fruity aromas accompanied by cedar, also powerful, fruit and spice on the palate, decent length finish. The favorite of most in the class. B+ <$15 US
Bouchard Père & Fils La Vignée 2001: Brickish color, subtle fruit aromas with more spice and cedar being prevalent. The aromas were moderate. Nicely balanced on the palate--fruit and spice were in harmony. Second most favored by the class. B <$15 US
Iris Hill Pinot Noir Oregon 2004: Dark ruby color with quite a bit of saturation, powerful aromas with dark cherries and layers of cedar and vanilla. A bit more fruit forward on the palate, but everything still nicely balanced. My personal favorite of the evening. B+ <$20 US
