Four Chardonnay tasting notes from last night’s class

by William Wilson on February 20, 2007

1. The Wishing Tree Unoaked Chardonnay Western Australia 2005–very prominent aromas and flavors. Has undergone some malolactic fermentation to create a creamy mouthfeel. Solid B.

2. Bouchard Père et Fils Pouilly-Fuissé 2004–subtle aromas and flavors, with a hint of oak treatment. Has undergone partial ML, less of a creamy mouthfeel. B+/A-

3. Pine and Post Chardonnay Washington 2005–aromas of rosemary, perhaps some pine needles as well. Similar in style to the Bouchard, just not quite as nice. B

4. St. Francis Chardonnay Sonoma County 2005–massive oak aromas and flavors, very creamy mouthfeel with the ML. B+ for achieving the desired style of the winemaker, but not my preferred style of Chardonnay.
