Want to learn about Chardonnay? Listen to Show 56! Sauvignon Blanc? Try Show 55!

by William Wilson on October 14, 2006

It’s long overdue, but the IU South Bend lecture about Chardonnay has finally been (quickly) edited and published for your enjoyment. We cover some great Chards in this tasting:

We also sampled the Valley of the Moon Pinot Blanc from California’s 2004 vintage.

If you can find the Perrusset, I really urge you to do so. It’s a Kermit Lynch import, and the price is amazingly low for such a great lightly-oaked Chardonnay. I need to go around the local wine shops and buy out their stock.

You can also download the suggested food pairings that my better half, Catherine, put together.

Okay, here’s the details. You can listen to the podcast using the Podtrac Player in the upper right corner, or you can grab the episodes at the iTunes Store. If downloading the mp3 files to your computer is more your thing, then here they are:

Keep in mind these recordings are of a live lecture with a hand-held microphone, so you won’t always hear questions or comments from anyone not holding the mic.

Show 55 on Sauvignon Blanc is also up, and it’s audio quality might be a little, um, strange. :-) If time allows I may go back to the raw audio and fix the problem.

Here are the files:

The wines we sampled are:

  • Montes Sauvignon Blanc, Chile 2004
  • Silverado Sauvignon Blanc, Napa Valley 2004
  • Redde Pouilly-Fumé, Loire, France 2004
  • Raats Chenin Blanc, Stellenbosch, South Africa 2004

We also have the suggested food and wine pairings for Sauvignon Blanc if you’d like those.

Hi Bill.

Thanks for doing all of this work! I’m truly a neophyte when it comes to wine, but slowly becoming more of a novice thanks to you!

Quick notes:

1. Could you entitle your podcasts announcements in more detail than just “Podcast #X is up!” It would help me find the podcasts that I’m particularly interested in when I click on the podcast category.

2. Closely related to #1, could you include a “search” tab on your blog so that I can more easily find things. (e.g. I can type in “tokaj” into your search tool and it will pull every post that mentions takaj.)

3. I must be missing it, but I don’t see an email contact anywhere on your website (hence this comment).

4. Agree with other listeners: I like the “reverb” room acoustics better than your closet. Also agree that background music was distracting. Your God-given voice is fine :)

5. Would love a show all about “tannins.”

Thanks!! Come visit my blog!

… and yes, please excuse my sloppy typing, #1 and #2 in the above comments were questions - sorry for leaving off the “?.”

Hi u.e. (any relation to ee cummings?)

Thanks for your kind words, and I’m trying to incorporate many of your suggestions. Time has not been on my side lately, but I really want to get things fixed up here on the blog.

Thanks Bill!

re: e.e. Not unless e.e. stands for “eminent epicure…” “u.e.” is just the initials of my handle - “ulterior epicure.”
